Workshop: wheel throwing intermediate to advanced level – in Asturias

This is what you’ll learn in this course

Raúl Mouro, a ceramic artist with extensive experience on the pottery wheel (his family has a tradition of wheel pottery work dating back to the 18th century), will teach you how to connect your body and mind while throwing on the wheel. The workshop is called En Torno a ti (Around You).

This workshop is for intermediate-level potters (you must know how to center at least 1 kg of clay).

The goal of this workshop is to take you from an intermediate to an advanced level, while emphasizing the connection between you as the potter and your piece. In addition to techniques for centering and throwing large pieces, you will learn to “throw with your whole body” (you might be surprised, but by the end of the workshop, you’ll be able to throw with your eyes closed).

Program

Friday

• 10:00 a.m.: Pick-up from Oviedo airport (we recommend taking the first Vueling flight departing at 7:10 a.m. from El Prat, arriving at 9:50 a.m.)
• 11:00 a.m.: Arrival at the workshop, space presentation, welcome coffee
• 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.: Class
• 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.: Snack break (finger food)
• 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.: Class
• 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.: Sharing experiences; tidying the workshop
• 7:00 p.m.: Transfer to Cangas del Narcea (to the hotel where you’re staying)

Saturday

• 10:00 a.m.: Pick-up in Cangas del Narcea (in front of Hotel Molinón)
• 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.: Access to the workshop for practice, or, if you prefer, a nature walk (highly recommended!)
• 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.: Class
• 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.: Snack break (finger food)
• 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.: Class
• 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.: Sharing experiences; tidying the workshop
• 7:00 p.m.: Transfer to Cangas del Narcea (drop-off at Hotel Molinón)

Sunday

• 10:00 a.m.: Pick-up in Cangas (meeting point to be determined; bring your luggage and check-out beforehand!)
• 10:30 a.m.: Departure from the workshop for a visit to the factory—on foot if the weather permits (and you’ll enjoy it), otherwise by car.
• 12:30 p.m.: Departure for the airport
• 2:00 p.m.: Arrival at Oviedo airport

Dates: Friday 21th and Saturday 22nd March from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Sunday  23rd March from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Intermediate level (you already know how to throw and can center at least 1 kg of clay)

THIS PRICE INCLUDES:

• Intermediate -> advanced-level pottery wheel workshop
• Stoneware, tools
• Round-trip transfers from Oviedo airport / Cangas de Narcea (approx. 1h15)
• Round-trip transfers from Cangas de Narcea to Raúl Mouro’s workshop (30 minutes)
• Welcome coffee on November 15; midday snacks (finger food) on November 15 and 16
• Visit to Raúl Mouro’s family ceramics factory

THIS PRICE DOES NOT INCLUDE:

• Transportation to Oviedo (you must book your flight)
  • you shall arrange your flights to arrive Friday Nov 15th till 10am and leave Sunday 17th after 3pm
• Lodging (but we can suggest several options)
• Breakfast and dinner (we can also suggest options)
• Firing of pieces is not included

For better attention and quality of classes, we work with groups of a maximum of 10 students. Courses are confirmed from 5 registered students. In the case of cancellation of the course, 100% of the value paid for the course will be refunded.
